Naples, tourism starts again: Pompeii and the islands among the most crowded destinations
Numbers up compared to the last weekend: in two days, more than five thousand visitors to the excavations on the slopes of Vesuvius, 7,500 passengers embarked for Ischia and 4,400 for Procida
Naples, 2 June 2021 – The data on the number of infections from Covid-19 in decline, the relaxation of restrictions and above all the desire to return to normal, gradually restart tourism in Campania. The long weekend of 2 June was positive for the traditionally busiest areas in the territory of the metropolitan city of Naples, such as the archaeological excavations of Pompeii and the islands of Ischia and Procida.
In Pompeii more than five thousand entries in two days
After a period of closure due to the pandemic, the Pompeii Archaeological Park saw tourists return to the ancient Roman remains, waiting to be able to walk the streets of one of the most famous places in the history of the Vesuvian area in the world.
The visitors between 1 and 2 June were 5,328 and exceeded those registered in the last weekend of May. Tourists have not forgotten even the peripheral sites such as Oplontis, with 128 appearances, and the Roman remains of Villa San Marco, with an average of about fifty visitors in the two days of June.
Ischia and Procida among the most crowded destinations
From history to breathtaking views and crystal clear sea: the islands of the Gulf of Naples are also doing well, in particular Ischia and Procida, which recently reached the goal of being Covid free in the hope of welcoming more tourists during the second summer of the pandemic.
According to the data of the Ischia Harbor Master’s Office, more than 7,500 passengers landed from ships and hydrofoils between yesterday and today in the ports of Ischia and Forio. Beaches, restaurants and hydrothermal parks invaded by visitors as in the past and hotels that have seen a surge in bookings both for the long weekend of June 2 and for next week.
Notable numbers also for Procida, where 4,400 people arrived between yesterday and today. Island so stormed as to create inconvenience to ports on the mainland due to the lack of sufficient seats on board departing vehicles, given that the prohibition, provided for by anti-Covid regulations, not to embark passengers over 50% is still in force of seats available on each ship.
